now for what its worth...i was against bailing them out in the first place (mostly coz they then immediately gave the ceo a massive bonus)
but..given the current situation.. not agreeing to a paycut in exchange for a bailout seems...ill advised?
good job union?

sure does look like whatevers left of the airlines wont be anything like it was before
least not for a good long time
suspect we’re going to have a lot of pilots n crew looking for other work (tho..klm will probably not be allowed to fail completely)

Most likely this is a game of chicken and some agreement will follow soon. KLM is too big and important to fail basically. The pilots union is just being obnoxious as usual, while everyone else faces reality.
Unions are good until they are bad. And this time they lack a sense of reality. Everyone has to sacrifice in aviation for the foreseeable future. I’m on a 40% contract with 40% pay. It was that or massive layoffs followed by bankruptcy a few months down the line . Literally 99% of our pilot group agreed and made the sacrifice to try to keep as much people employed.
This union only cares about the pilots (yeah duh, it is their union) and would rather cripple the entire company and throw them into bankruptcy tha n accept 80% pay until 2025 to ensure the government support and keep thousands and thousands of jobs. And a lot of these guys are actually already sitting at home on 90% of their original salary doing fuck all with the tax payer supporting that 90% salary.
I’m a pilot, but man, pilots suck sometimes. You see it all over. Too many people in it for “the money and the lifestyle” and lacking any sense of the current reality in aviation.

yeah..i doubt they’ll allow klm to collapse...that said joblosses seem inevitable at this point...at least for a couple years theres gonna be a lot of pilots and crew spare

Heh. Yeah. Berlin’s timing is exquisite, no?
“We’re doing a soft opening.... with no actual planes... it that goes OK for a few years we may actually let passengers fly out of here...”

I don’t know about Holland but 40% of the US average pilot salary is still a livable wage

Wow. Just wow. Could these rich fucks possibly be any more tone deaf or out of touch with reality?

Yeah, I’m not even in Holland but in Eastern Europe and I can still manage on 40% here. So complaining about 80% is a bit asinine.

I don’t know, I’ll bet a lot of people thought Sabena and Swissair were too big and important to totally disappear, too.
Chances the assets get restructured as "KL Amsterdam Airlines" ?

Hey, the last President here bailed out every one of the banker sumbitches, let them all keep their bonuses and propped up “Financial Services” even as everybody else went broke.
